Hubert Saint-Onge

Mr. Saint-Onge has developed and implemented knowledge management strategies for large corporations for more than 20 years. By helping businesses such as Clarica, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Shell Canada realize the full potential of their human assets, Saint-Onge is widely recognized as an authority on the management of intellectual capital. He will explore LiveLinkUp's first day theme—"Managing Intellectual Capital Through Virtual Teams" - from his unique hands-on business perspective. Saint-Onge is currently senior vice president, strategic capabilities for Clarica, one of Canada's largest insurance and financial services providers.

Nick Bontis, Ph.D.
Director, Institute for Intellectual Capital Research

Dr. Bontis will further explore LiveLinkUp's first-day theme as a leading researcher in the area of intellectual capital management. He is a world-renowned expert on intellectual capital, organizational learning and knowledge management. Dr. Bontis is also an award-winning professor of strategic management at McMaster University in Ontario and associate editor of the Journal of Intellectual Capital.

Jim Balsillie
Chairman and Co-CEO, Research in Motion Limited

Mr. Balsillie has been the Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of RIM since 1992. He is responsible for directing strategy, business development, and finance.

RIM is best known for the BlackBerry handheld which has been honoured with awards such as:

  • The Red Herring 100 (2001);
  • InfoWorld Magazine's Product of the Year Award in the Mobile Computing Category for Blackberry (2000);
  • PC World's World Class Award, naming BlackBerry the Best Wireless Communication Device (2000);
  • Profit 100 Award for 2000;
  • Smithsonian Award: ComputerWorld (1999), which includes the acceptance of the RIM Inter@ctive Pager 950 into the Smithsonian Institution's Permanent Research Collection of Information Technology, the world's premier history record of computing applications and innovations.

Jim is a Chartered Accountant and a graduate of the University of Toronto and of Harvard University.

Dr. Friedrich Froeschl
Ph.D., President and CEO, Siemens Business Services

Dr. Froeschl is President and CEO of Siemens Business Services, a subsidiary of Siemens AG, which has developed into one of the leading providers of electronic business and mobile business solutions and services in just a few years in the information and communication market. In this function, Dr. Froeschl is also Group President of Siemens AG.

Having successfully completed a doctorate in physics, Bavarian-born Froeschl embarked upon his career at SOFTLAB GmbH in Munich and switched two years later to IT planning at Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm (MBB) in Munich.

In 1991, after five years in leading positions in the solution business at Digital Equipment GmbH (member of executive management in Germany) Froeschl became Head of German Operations of CSC—Computer Science Corporation—and a member of the European Management Board of CSC Europe. Following the acquisition of one of the largest German professional service software houses, CSC Ploenzke, he moved to Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG where, as a member of the board, he developed the consulting, system integration and outsourcing business.

In 1998, Siemens grouped the Information and Communication Networks, Information and Communication Mobile and Siemens Business Services (SBS) under the Information and Communications (I&C) business segment. As head of SBS, Froeschl has since been responsible for service business in I&C.
