1. BASIS and Techlib: Advanced BASIS DBA & SA

Workshop format using numerous examples. Students are encouraged to propose scenarios for discussion and/or resolution. The DBA/SA training class will address application specific issues as much as possible. Topics will include optimizing database schemas, REVL, indexing options, VLDB, backups, system environment variables, and kernel tuning.

2. BASIS and Techlib: BASIS Webtop and OPAC Product Requirements Workshop

There is NO CHARGE for this session, although conference registration is required.

This workshop will have three parts. It begins with an introduction to BASIS Webtop and the user interface with an opportunity for hands-on practice. Next you will participate in a round table discussion of product requirements focusing on search, result set manipulation, thesaurus interaction, etc. Finally the participants will be divided into two groups: one group will focus on requirements for BASIS application features like document check-in and check-out, document conversion procedures, etc.; the other group will focus on Techlib OPAC features like search by library, view copies, and place requests. At the end of the workshop your ideas will be incorporated into release plans for the next version of BASIS Webtop and Techlib OPAC.

3. BASIS and Techlib: Customizing BASIS Webtop

Prerequisites: none

For database administrators with a basic knowledge of programming, database connectivity and 3-tier architectures the course introduces the use of Java and JDBC in the BASIS Webtop development environment. An overview of the BASIS Webtop architecture and customization options. At the end of the workshop you will understand the various components of BASIS Webtop and the tools used to configure and customize and the application.
